Kelp forests offer protective shelter not only for young fish, but also for invertebrates such as sea urchins, sea stars, snails and crabs. Sea otters thrive in kelp forests, too.

Kelp forests hold a lot of carbon, but they also foster the growth of multitudes of marine life. Young fish are hidden from predators, safe among fields of kelp.
